Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario

The Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario (English: Archer, Sagittarius) was an Italian monoplane fighter and fighter-bomber produced for the Regia Aeronautica during the later years of World War II. Along with the Macchi C.202/C.205 and Fiat G.55, the Reggiane Re.2005 was one of the three Serie 5 Italian fighters. The lines of the fuselage were aerodynamically efficient and the design was intended to exploit the famous Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine. The only drawback was a certain structural weakness in the rear section of the fuselage. Only 48 examples had been delivered before the Armistice and these fighters took part in the defence of Naples, Rome and Sicily with the survivors battling above the crumbling ruins of Berlin, in German insignia. Well-respected ace and military observer, Group Captain Duncan Smith, DSO DFC, said that "The Re.2005 was altogether a superb, potent aeroplane". The Fiat G.55 Centauro (Italian: "Centaur") was a single-engine single-seat World War II fighter aircraft used by the Regia Aeronautica and the A.N.R. The Curtiss-Wright Model 21 (also known as the Curtiss-Wright Model 21 Demonstrator, the Curtiss-Wright CW-21 Interceptor, the Curtiss-Wright CW-21 Demon) was a United States-built fighter interceptor, developed by the St. Louis Airplane Division of Curtiss-Wright Corporation during the 1930s n 1938, George A. Page, head of the Saint Louis Airplane Division of Curtiss-Wright, decided to develop a fighter aircraft based on Carl W. Scott's two seater Model 19. Page's concept was a lightweight fighter interceptor with as high a rate of climb as possible in order to allow bomber formations to be attacked with minimal warning. If faced with fighter opposition, it was intended not to dogfight, but to use its superior climb rate to escape. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Würger (English: Shrike) is a German single-seat, single-engine fighter aircraft designed by Kurt Tank in the late 1930s and widely used during World War II. Along with its well-known counterpart, the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Fw 190 became the backbone of the Luftwaffe's Jagdwaffe (Fighter Force). The  Curtiss P-36 Hawk , also known as the  Curtiss Hawk Model 75 , is an American-designed and built fighter aircraft of the 1930s and 40s. The  Curtiss P-40 Warhawk  is an American single-engined, single-seat, all-metal  fighter  and  ground-attack aircraft  that first flew in 1938. The P-40 design was a modification of the previous  Curtiss P-36 Hawk  which reduced development time and enabled a rapid entry into production and operational service. Lavochkin La-7

The  Lavochkin La-7  ( Russian :  Лавочкин Ла-7 ) was a piston-engined  Soviet   fighter  developed during  World War II  by the  Lavochkin Design Bureau  ( OKB ). It was a development and refinement of the  Lavochkin La-5 , and the last in a family of aircraft that had begun with the  LaGG-1  in 1938. Its  first flight  was in early 1944 and it entered service with the  Soviet Air Forces  later in the year. A small batch of La-7s was given to the  Czechoslovak Air Force  the following year, but it was otherwise not exported. Armed with two or three 20 mm (0.79 in) cannon, it had a top speed of 661 kilometers per hour (411 mph). The La-7 was felt by its pilots to be at least the equal of any German piston-engined fighter. It was phased out in 1947 by the Soviet Air Force, but served until 1950 with the Czechoslovak Air Force.
